After capitulating inside 40 overs in their first innings for 140 against Mumbai on Day One, Himachal’s batters finally showed some grit and gumption on Day Three of their Elite Group D Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.Opener Innesh Mahajan (37, 91b, 5x4), skipper Pukhraj Mann (34*, 94b, 5x4) and wicketkeeper-batter Vaibhav Kalta (14*, 70b, 3x4) all did well to stonewall Mumbai and delay the visitors’ charge towards an innings win.At stumps, Himachal were 144/3 in 56 overs, still trailing by 244 runs.Earlier, Mumbai wicketkeeper-batter Akash Anand slammed a century (117*, 239b, 14x4), while Sarfaraz Khan made 154 (228b, 19x4) as Mumbai declared at 528/8.
At Chepauk, Tamil Nadu captain and left-arm spinner Sai Kishore took a hat-trick as his team crushed Uttarakhand by an innings and 66 runs inside three days. In the 43rd over, Sai Kishore bowled Lakshya Raichandani on the fourth ball, had Saurabh Rawat caught in the slips off the fifth, and then had Aditya Rawat caught behind as TN bowled out Uttarakhand for 113.
In Srinagar, Vidarbha overcame Jammu & Kashmir by three wickets in a low-scoring thriller.
Chasing a target of 79 in the final innings, Vidarbha collapsed to 26/6 and then 55/7 before Harsh Dubey (22*) and Nachiket Bhute (13*) took them home.
A brave century by middle-order batter Manan Hingrajia (108*, 274b, 12x4, 1x6), a half-century by Joymeet Patel (72, 119b, 9x4) and a useful contribution from skipper Chintan Gaja (41*, 105b, 3x4) helped Gujarat, who resumed at 98/2, reply strongly to Delhi’s 648/6.At stumps on Day Three, Gujarat were 363/5, still trailing by 285 runs. Hingrajia added 124 in 285 balls for the fifth wicket with Joymeet, then put on 86 in 178 balls in an unbeaten partnership for the sixth wicket with Gaja to leave Delhi’s bowlers frustrated.
